Poems sent to RJ Pasant in Honor of Collin

Iam the flag of the United States of America. My name is "Old Glory".I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.I stand watch in America's halls of justice.I fly majestically over institutions of learning.I stand guard with power in the world.Look up and see me. I stand for peace ,honor, truth and justice.I stand for freedom.Iam confident.Iam arrogant.Iam proud. When Iam flown with my fellow banners,my head is a little higher,my colors a little truer.I bow to no one! Iam reconized all over the world.Iam worshipped,Iam saluted.Iam loved. Iam revered,Iam respected, and Iam feared.I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years.I was flown at Valley Forge,Gettysburg,Shiloh and Appomattox, I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France,in the Argonne Forest,Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy,Guam,Okinawa, Korea, and Vietnam. I was there .I led my troops.I was dirty ,battle weary and tired ,but my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.I have been burned ,torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free.It does not hurt, for Iam invincible.I have been soiled upon ,burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it's by those whom I've served in battle it hurts. But I shall overcome for Iam strong.I have slipped the bonds of earth and stood over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.I have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come. When Iam torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield, when Iam flown at half -mast to honor my soldier,or when I lie the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,Iam proud. My name is "Old Glory",long may I wave, Dear God in heaven long may I wave. It is soldiers like Collin Bowen that make me proud to be a American.

Iam a soldier far away from home in a land where Iam not welcome, and I whish that somehow I could be with my friend's and loved ones right now.Iam a soldier taking a stand for what is right and wrong in a foreign land.Iam a soldier fighting for the freedom of my country ,and even though I get scared at times I do this willingly.Yes,Iam a soldier who is proud to fight for the United States no matter what may be my fate, because my country stands for freedom and liberty and that means everything to me.

I turned 21 in saudi, and I heard my mother cry.She didnt want my phone call to be a last goodbye.I told her not to worrry, that I had a job to do and I'd be right home to see her as soon as it was through.I picked up my last coins and put them in the phone, told my mother that I loved her and asked her to be strong. That is when the line went dead and left me all alone, standing in this foreign land just staring at the phone. We know about the poison gas and the way we might die. But,that dosent affect me like hearing my mother cry. We've dug in our positions. Now were waiting for the fight. We sweat all through the daytime ,then freeze all through the night. We sit here in the desert while sand is blown around, and we listen to the wind as it makes its lonely sound. We keep our weapons clean, preparing them to fire.If I said I had no fear, you know I'd be a liar. But,my greatest fear of all is not that I might die, but,if I do get killed,I'd still hear my mother cry.We eagerly await the mail. It's the highlight of the day,and you know who got left out just by how they walk away,We sit here in our foxholes, longing for the distant day when we can kneel and kiss the ground in the good ole U.S.A. Some people say that if there's war,the reason will be greed .But no matter what the cause, someone will have to bleed.Iam here to risk my life.Quite possible I will die.My reason is a simple one,Its so fewer mothers cry.Saddam attempts to justify .He calls this a holy war.But those of us that aren't so blind, see that greed is at the core.I have no quarrel with Islam and these arabs here like me.So ask yourself this question: "Who must Saddam's god be"? He killed his fellow Muslims when Iraq invaded Kuwait. He dosen't pray to allah ,the god he worships is hate! and when,at last ,he leaves this world at that judgment in the sky; the question he will answer is,"who made these mothers cry"? If we decided to fight today or further down the road,The only question in my mind is the debt that will be owed. And when the war machine runs down, and they tally up the cost; The price wont be in dollars, but in the lives we lost. This loan account in blood and tears grows larger every day.How much interest will there be before we decide to pay?We must stop Saddam Hussein; we all know the reason why.But how long before we do?How many mothers must cry?

Poems and writings from RJ Pasant

March, 2008
He went to Afghanistan to protect the land. As you know he volunteered to
go. On new years day he watched the sunrise from far away, as the warm
glow would appear his fate was near. True to the warrior in him and his
fighting spirit and refusal to give up, the lord could see, so he
softly whispered “Collin come to me”. He made his last stand as his
family held his hand. Now at Arlington he will lay and rest with the
best of the best. To our fallen hero, which we all love, may you rest
in peace in Heaven up above.

To my fallen hero, Collin, thank you for your meritorious service to the
country. No person was ever honored for what they received. Honor has been the
reward for what they gave and, in the end, it’s not the years in your life that
count, it’s the life in your years.

With all do respect my purple heart I would never reject. Pin it on me the
day I can see, upon my chest with all the rest. My sacrifices have been
great but let me share with you my fate. I am strong willed, and very
determined, and I WILL FIGHT WITH ALL MY MIGHT. When I wiggle a foot or
toe I am letting you know. Even with all these bandages upon my face
all the voices I can place. I have to much to live for as you can see
in such a supportive and loving family. Hold your heads up high and
don't cry, for I am United States Army SSG Collin J.Bowen and it wont
be long before I am again strong!
